Superficial

Image
Been spending the last few weeks working on costumes for Superficial. Creating outfits for divas and dudes in distress in a play about identity on the gay scene,  masculinity, drag & the queerness of pop.... Showing at The Glory Now! The brief was really quite vague..which meant I had an amazing amount of creative freedom! Absolutely loved conjuring up some stunning pieces, particularly the menswear,    new shoes and drag outfits.   Check out the tits on this Madonna dress... An absolute show stopper if I do say so myself...  I had trouble sourcing anything cool for Benjamin, the club owners character- he was a flamboyant chap- wise of words, rich in experience, but in the end, the menswear was epic.     Here’s a small selection of works…sadly, once again, my picture documentation isn’t spectacular- they look better on the stage anyway, with the lights hitting the bling and the bling blinding the lights. The ones I hated the most in production were actually the be

Living a New Dream

Image
After life spinning wildly and uncontrollably into a creative black hole, there is finally a blinding light at the end of the tunnel.  I have offically gone up in the world, a nd s ince departing ways with my greatest love,   I have been living a new dream...  From a trailer park in Bristol My new trailer park life is exactly how I like it. Raw, rural and real.  It reminds me of the places I used to live in before they were bulldozed for luxury flats and bespoke bistros. It’s a super industrial wasteland, a  desolate jungle peppered sparsely with barely a soul on site.  Everything unravelled rather quickly from my life in London, I had a super sweet deal studio wise.   But sadly, the magic carpet was stepped on and I went flying off…  And w ithout an art studio, I officially had no reason to live.     Friends told me to get a real job- but I still wasn’t prepared to sacrifice my creativity for a job I hated to endure in a city that was not kind.

Goodbye Cruel World

Unfortunately, due to a series of the most unfortunate and catastrophic events smashing wildly and unexpectedly into each other- I have had to cancel the show. The Greatest Show That Ever Died, remains dead.               The universe has dealt some devastating blows in a whole variety of situations, and sadly this is one of them. To be able to live as I do in London, I need to not be paying rent. I found a way to do this through house sitting. Sometimes you’re living the dream, other times it’s sofa surfing, squat life and tinder dates. As well as my tempestuous sleeping arrangements, I have also been secretly struggling for a creative reason to live. For a while now, I have been slowly slipping into an uphill battle with a whirling pit of despair. Nothing was moving, everything was stuck. Most things felt lost. The only real joy and sanctuary was my art studio, which was generously donated to me a few years ago by The Vaults. No matter what was going on, I could alwa

Killer Cabaret

It’s the news everyone has been waiting for….   The notorious taxidermy animal puppets are back to sing for their lives, as the creator of the greatest show that ever died brings you a brand new cabaret direct from the underworld. . . Ignominious artist Charlie Tuesday Gates has scraped up roadkill, bought deceased dogs from gumtree and revived the family pet to create the ultimate subversive theatre experience. It feels like they've spent an eternity in the freezer, but finally, Foxy, Badger and the gang are back from the dead, singing their smash hits based on the true stories of the animals miserable lives… This is a brand new show- crude, rude and brutal.   Guaranteed to be the night of anybody's life.. The ultimate subversive theatre experience. . . The Resistance Gallery 236 Poyser Street, Bethnal Green 7pm Who knows when you'll hear the dead sing again ....
